"100x Madonna" exhibition to open in Crypt Gallery, London
A new work by Alke can be seen in 100x Madonna, an exhibition of works by artists from around the world responding to the theme of the Madonna. The exhibition will be at the Crypt Gallery, London, from 7-17 September 2016.
"I was really interested in this theme", says Alke, "because I've always been troubled by the kind of ideal woman (virgin/mother) that the traditional Madonna image seems to have imprinted on Christian culture. I guess my Madonna is a feminist response to this reductive ideal."
