"Tangible" exhibition at Pontarte Maastrict
"Tangible", a 2-person show with Dutch artist Greet Weitenberg at PontArte Gallery Maastricht, will open on Saturday 13 May 23, with an opening event from 5-7 pm CET.
Just before the opening, at 4:30 pm CET, Greet and I will introduce our works on Instagram live from PontArte’s Instagram account, @pontarte_maastricht .
The exhibition showcases two very different ways of using thread as an artistic medium. It will include the "Healing" series I've been (slowly) making over the past year.
"Tangible" will run until 18 June.
Exhibition opening hours: Thur/Fri/Sat 11 AM - 5 PM and by appointment.
Healing V (Calendula) and III (Valerian), embroidery and transfer print on linen table mats, each 36 x 46 cm
The transfer prints are images from an MRI scan of my brain, done as part of the medical investigations into what turned out to be Long Covid.
I got drawn to embroidery because it is something I am able to do while I recover my health and also because of its calming, meditative effect. I've become very interested in neuroplasticity because an important part of my recovery is to "rewire" the dysfunctions in my autonomous nervous system. The therapeutic effects of needlework have been known for a long time and thanks to modern imaging technology we can now see that it can actually change the brain.
